SIERRAVILLE · SINCE 1965
Private and association road sealcoating in Sierraville.
Sierraville is a genuine drive from the yard, north on Highway 89 over Sierra Summit and down into the valley. Robert E. Sutton Co. works out of Truckee, licensed in California and Nevada, and private road sealcoating is one of the three things we do. Call (530) 587-4161.
What the work involves
Association road networks get assessed segment by segment, then sealed on a rotation so no single season carries the whole cost and no stretch of road goes a decade bare. Crack sealing runs across the whole network annually underneath that rotation.
Why it matters at this elevation
Sealcoating up here is protection, not decoration, although the black finish is a fair bonus. It shields the asphalt binder from ultraviolet light, closes off the fine surface porosity that lets water wick in, and gives plow blades a sacrificial surface to scrape instead of the pavement.
At roughly 4,950 feet, this is some of the lowest ground we work — a longer season, an earlier start, and a lighter snow load than the higher communities. It is still mountain pavement. Nights drop below freezing well into spring and start again early in fall, so anything that lets water in during those stretches gets punished the same way it does up top.
How the job runs
The order of operations is what makes it last. The surface gets cleaned down to sound pavement, oil spots get treated so the sealer will bond over them, cracks get sealed first, and then the coating goes on. Skipping prep is how a sealcoat ends up peeling inside a year.
Sierraville pavement specifically
Ranch and residential drives, shared access roads, and small commercial pavement. Work this far out is best grouped with other jobs on the same run, which is worth raising when you call.
Sierraville sits north of Truckee in Sierra Valley, up Highway 89 over Sierra Summit, a small ranching community on the floor of one of the largest alpine valleys in the country. Less snow load, an earlier thaw, and a working season that opens sooner than it does up at the summit.
A coating on this pavement is protection against sun and water, not a repair. Where the surface has gone past protection, we say so rather than paint over it.
Sierraville sits at roughly 4,950 feet, and the pavement around it behaves accordingly. More on the area on our Sierraville service area page. We work the same corridor through Truckee, Prosser, Boca, Hirschdale, and the pavement guides go deeper on the physics if you want it.
Questions
How often should this be repeated in Sierraville?
Crack work is close to annual up here because every winter opens something new. Surface and striping work runs on a cycle measured in a few years, shorter on plowed and heavily used pavement.
Do you do private road sealcoating in Sierraville?
Yes. Sierraville is inside our regular service area out of Truckee, and private road sealcoating is core work for us. Call (530) 587-4161 or send a request and we will get it scoped.
Do you handle the whole job or subcontract it?
Our own crew does the work. Four people with a great deal of Sierra pavement between them, out of the Truckee yard. That is also why the schedule is finite and why booking early matters.
